September 22, 2007 This is the M-26 Russian Helicopter. It is one of the largest helicopters in the world. It is the heavy lift transport aircraft for the south of Sudan. There are four of three here in the mission. Because the runways are mostly dirt/mud and short, large heavy lift airplanes such as the Hurcules C130 and larger cannot safely land and stop with the large loads in them. So the M-26 can deliver the heavy equipment, it still requires to go down the runway like an airplane to take off when it is full, but only need 150 metres. The M-26 has brought a Grader, bulldozer, three dump trucks to the Team Site (not all in one trip).
